Vintage Moonstone Jewelry for June Birthdays!

When Romans first looked at the moonstone, they believed that this remarkable gem contained magic powers, which managed to trap the rays of the moonlight within. Modern man knows, of course, that the coloration is due to the silicate’s makeup, which features sodium and potassium as well as quite a bit of aluminum. A favorite of the Art Nouveau movement, plenty of jewels featuring this gemstone date back to Art Deco and other eras as well.
Peter Suchy Jewelers know that the moonstone is also one of the three birthstones for June, with pearls and alexandrite being the other two. If the pale colors and endless depths of this gem have captivated you, we have some amazing pieces you have to see.

Moonstone and Ruby Pendant in Gold

Set in 14k green gold, there are 10 clear light blue moonstones with a combined weight of 10.0cts. An additional 10 red rubies weighing .50cts bring subtle color to the piece. Arranged as a flower, this piece dates back to about 1945. The 1.24-diameter pendant hangs from a 17-inch chain. The lightness of the moonstone’s coloration makes it suitable for wear with any color top.

Tiffany Moonstone and Sapphire Earrings in Gold

Tiffany’s artisans used 14k yellow gold to set these flower-shaped earrings. Made sometime in the 1940s, two blue sapphires weighing .30cts serve as centers. Ten oval cabochon-cut translucent moonstones weigh 8.0cts and make up the petals. These earrings are beautiful and display the gemstone to its fullest potential.

Moonstone and Montana Sapphire White Gold Ring

The cocktail ring is set in 14k white gold. A total of 10 purplish blue Montana sapphires weighing 1.50cts surround an oval moonstone that weighs 2.50cts. The white gold supports the paleness of the center gem while the blue hues of the sapphires imbue it with just a hint of color. This is a truly amazing color combination.

Art Deco Moonstone Ring with Rubies in Pink Gold

Made in 1943 by Retro Art Deco aficionados, this ring starts with a 14k pink gold setting. The center stone is an oval moonstone that showcases a milky translucency. It weighs 5.50cts. Six round deep red rubies weigh .90cts and cluster on either side of the gemstone. Their distinctive red, as well as the pink from the setting, gives the moonstone just a hint of a blush.

Moonstone Rondelle Bracelet

Fourteen karat yellow gold holds the rondelles in place. Twenty-eight moonstone beads weigh 25.0cts and measure 7.5mm by 3mm. They have a very slight blue tint. At a length of 7 ¾ inches, this bracelet fits comfortably on the wrist. ‘
